Setting up a TP-Link Omada access point (AP) in Standalone Mode using just your smartphone app is quick and doesn't require a dedicated hardware controller or computer setup.

Here is the step-by-step procedure to get your new outdoor or indoor Omada AP up and running with a secure Wi-Fi network.

Prerequisites Before You Begin

  • Download the TP-Link Omada app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  • Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone (the app uses this to discover the AP initially).

  • Ensure your Omada AP is powered on via its PoE adapter and connected to your internet router with an Ethernet cable.

The Setup Method

1.Connect to the default Wi-Fi: Look at the product label on the back or bottom of your Omada AP. Find the default wireless network name (SSID) printed there (usually looks like TP-Link_2.4GHz_XXXXXX or TP-Link_5GHz_XXXXXX). Go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and connect to it. Note: This default network will not have a password.

2.Open the Omada app & locate the device: Open the Omada app. Agree to the terms, and you will see the main screen. Scroll down to the bottom section labeled Standalone Devices. Your Omada AP should automatically pop up here thanks to Bluetooth/local network discovery. Tap on the device name.

3.Create device administrator credentials: Before setting up your Wi-Fi, the app will force you to create a secure Username and Password for the access point itself. This is not your Wi-Fi password; this is the admin password used to log into the device settings in the future. Write this down, then tap Next.

4.Configure your new SSID and password: You will now see the wireless configuration screen.

  • Under SSID, type the name you want for your new network (e.g., Soundies_WiFi).

  • Under Security, make sure WPA2-PSK or WPA3-SAE is selected.

  • Under Password, type the secure Wi-Fi password you want guests and family to use to connect. Tap Save or Apply.

What happens next: Once you tap apply, the access point will reboot itself to activate the new network. The default TP-Link network will disappear, and your phone will disconnect.

Simply open your phone's Wi-Fi settings, look for your newly created network name, type in your new password, and you are ready to browse!
